RESUME TIPS

Resume Writing Tips and Suggestions:
SeeMeResumes.com is not in the business of writing resumes. SeeMeResumes.com is your connection to the nations best recruiting firms. We all must recognize however, that a proper and strategically crafted resume can be the first step towards that exceptional opportunity. It gives the candidates and recruiters the ammunition needed to get that offer of employment. With that stated, here are a few rules and guidelines to follow in your resume preparation:

Be accurate but not modest:
Most people tend to play down their experience and abilities so they do not appear conceited or boastful. Well, your resume is not the place to do that. YOUR RESUME IS YOUR SALES PRESENTATION AND YOU ARE THE PRODUCT! It is the job of the resume and the recruiter to get you the interview, after that it is up to you to close the sale. Take the time and effort required to make your resume complete and accurate. Think about the challenges and successes that you have created for your current and past employers. Be certain to include specific examples of your work that are verifiable and quantifiable. Do not put down things that you cannot justify or comfortably explain. Be accurate, correct, and honest, but remain in a sales mentality when crafting your resume.

Keep it simple and clear:
Any person that picks up your resume should be able to tell immediately what you do and where your professional goals lie. Stick to the basics when it comes to content. Include your current employment status (who, what, where, when, and why), your educational degrees, and your employment information in easily decipherable sections. Also include your current contact information including addresses for email and snail mail.

Appearance and presentation:
You can spend all the time and effort you want in creating a fantastic sales tool with your resume but it can all be for naught if it is filled with spelling or grammatical errors, improper spacing, or simply appears poorly prepared. The appearance and presentation of your resume is equally as important as the actual content. Here are some brief tips for appearance and presentation:
  • Choose a standard typeface: Times, Helvetica or Arial are all popular and easy to read.
  • Stay away from overly decorative items such as graphics, lines or italics. They do not draw attention in a productive fashion and add to clutter.
  • Utilize the appropriate amount of space for your content. Do not try to cram 15 years of employment information onto one page. There is no valid reason to stay with a one-page resume if your work experience and information warrant additional pages.
  • Utilize indentation, bullets and white space on the resume to your advantage. They generally call attention to areas of importance that you do want the recruiter or employer to notice.
  • Stay consistent and uniform in your design and layout.
  • Last but not least: Spell check and proofread your resume.

Resume format:
While there are many different types of resumes, we recommend and suggest you stay with the traditional "Chronological" format for the widest exposure and acceptance. Unless you are in a very specific creative field, the chronological/historical is the most widely used and accepted resume format. Most hiring manager and recruiters are accustomed to reviewing material in this format. It is however, important to recognize that modern technological advances would necessitate that every job seeker be prepared to adapt their resume format and style to the situation at hand. This is why we would also recommend having different versions of your resume that are easily scannable, searchable by keywords, and/or in standard ASCII text format for easy posting to job boards or job search engines.
